Busting a myth: Bright Sunny Days vs Boring Cloudy Days for Taking Pictures

Photography Tip #1

One of the biggest misconceptions about photography is that the best days to take pictures are bright, sunny days.

In my opinion the best days to take pictures are the "boring" cloudy days.  Let me explain why.

Bright sunny days do have their advantages because you can get the desired light ring in the eyes of your subject and sometimes the harsh shadows are a necessary part of your shot.  But usually you have to find shade or make your own shade to make the subject of your shoot look good.

Cloudy days however present the best shooting days in my opinion.  The clouds act like a natural filter by reducing the amount of light hitting your subject.  You can shoot just about anywhere without having to worry about harsh shadows messing up your shot.  I absolutely love cloudy days for taking pictures.

If you have any questions about what you just read or anything else, please feel free to contact me anytime!

Thanks!
