The case for printing your pictures vs only digital files

I am a big proponent of having your pictures printed as opposed to just having the digital version.

Here are my thoughts.

One day, sometime in the future Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and Snapchat are all going to go away.  It may not be today or tomorrow but sometime inevitably they will go away (remember MySpace?).  And with it all of your pictures.  All of those selfies, family pictures, party pics and food pics will be gone.

The same can be said about digital media storage.  CD's are already a thing of the past. Eventually flash drives and external hard drives will be replaced with something new and better.  And yes, phones will change and so will the storage that goes along with them.

Hear me out, I am not totally against digital files.  I get it, digital media is fun and cheap and you can do all sorts of things with it.  I mean we used digital pictures for our annual Christmas cards.

Printing seems expensive and it is a big investment but its an investment that will prove it's worth over time.  If you get the prints on the correct paper, they will last for many, many years.  How many of you can go into your mom's or grandma's house and still find a photo album of some sort?  Those pictures have endured the test of time and bring smiles to faces and brings back all kinds of memories.

Digital pictures are stored away, possibly to never be seen again.  When was the last time YOU printed off pictures and put them on your wall or book?

Yes as a photographer I do sell prints and strongly encourage you to get prints whenever possible.  But even if you do decide to get just the digital pictures from me or any other photographer for that matter, just make sure you get some printed and put them in that photo album or on the wall for you and people to see.

Isn't that that's the whole reason why you took the time to schedule a photography session in the first place?

You wanted great pictures so enjoy them!
