A Summer Family Session at Smith Mountain Lake

One unforgettable week, one beautiful family and one gorgeous Virginia lakefront backdrop.

This past summer I had the absolute joy of photographing a beautiful family reunion at Smith Mountain Lake. They came together from all over the country — Oregon, North Carolina and Northern Virginia — for a week of relaxation, laughter and lakefront memories. And I was lucky enough to be part of it for an evening.

It was one of those classic Virginia summer days — hot, humid and hazy. We made the most of the lake house’s beautiful setup: we started around the pool, then moved down to the dock where their boat was tied up and finally made our way to the upper patio for some golden hour shots. Every spot had its own feel and the family’s energy made each photo even better.

More than just a session, it felt like hanging out with old friends. Everyone was kind, welcoming and full of life.  The kind of people who make my job feel less like work and more like a privilege.

Grateful to have spent a small part of their vacation with them.
