Watching My Parents Grow Older

You know, something I've been reflecting on a lot lately is watching my parents age.  My dad will be 83 in June and my mom is 80.  I am extremely blessed to still have them in my life today.

It's funny how when we're younger, we don't really think about it too much. They're just mom and dad, always there, always the same. But as the years go by, you start to notice these little changes, almost undetectable at first.

It's like a gradual awakening to the passage of time. Suddenly, you realize they're moving a bit slower, maybe forgetting things here and there, the T.V. is extremely loud when you walk in their house and you have to practically yell at them to get them to hear what you are saying.

And it hits you: they're getting older. And it's harder than you ever imagined it would be.

This is why I urge you to seize the moment and capture those precious memories while you still can.  Take those family portraits, snap those candid shots during Sunday lunch, document every milestone and ordinary moment.

You find yourself grappling with this mix of emotions – sadness, nostalgia, even a touch of fear. You want to freeze time, to keep them exactly as they are, forever young and vibrant. But life doesn't work that way.

Despite the challenges, there's a beauty in witnessing their journey. They've lived, they've loved, and they've taught us so much along the way. So, while watching them age might be tough, it's also a reminder of the incredible gift it is to have them in our lives.

And capturing those moments through photography ensures that their legacy lives on, long after they are gone.
