That Time I Ran Away From Home

There are many songs out there that have the title "Runaway" but the one I want you to sing over and over in your head is the Bon Jovi version because it fits the best.

Somewhere in the calm countryside of Callaway, Virginia, a ten-year-old version of myself set out on a journey that would become a hysterical family story for years to come. Driven by the passionate rebellion that can only come from a child I stormed out of the house spurred by an important (yet now forgotten) disagreement with my parents.

With a ton of determination and an empty red duffel bag slung over my shoulder, I escaped to my dad's tractor shed 50 yards from my house. In my mind, it was the ultimate hide-out for a runaway.

Looking back, the time I spent in the shed may have been short-lived and quite comical but it taught me a lot about not leaving things hanging with the people you love and the joy of laughter when we re-tell the story.

You're probably thinking what does this story have to do with me?

Well I just want to encourage you to enjoy life's funny moments and cherish the memories, even the ones filled with empty duffel bags (because who needs snacks or survival gear when you're a renegade on a mission right?) and backyard adventures. Let laughter be your guide and never underestimate the joy found in shared experiences.

After all, it's these moments that truly make our lives worth living.

And if you ever decide to runaway, I can help you pack!

Jonathan
