“Say cheese!”

It’s the classic line every photographer, parent and well-meaning relative has used since forever. But here’s the honest truth — you don’t have to smile in every single senior photo if that’s not your thing.

I know a lot of parents imagine a gallery full of big, happy smiles (and don’t worry, we’ll absolutely get those!). But senior portraits are more than just a checklist of “pretty pictures.” They’re about capturing who you are right now — your personality, your mood, your style. Sometimes that’s a soft smile, sometimes it’s a serious, confident look and sometimes it’s somewhere in between.

For some seniors, smiling for the camera just doesn’t feel natural. And you know what? That’s okay. The last thing either of us wants is a fake, forced grin that doesn’t feel like you. These photos are meant to last for years, and I want you to look back on them and actually see yourself — not a version of you that felt uncomfortable.
