Family Photos That Feel Like You
Let’s be honest — getting the whole family together for pictures can feel like trying to herd cats. Someone’s always missing a shoe, Dad’s not exactly thrilled about matching outfits and you’re just hoping to at least get one good picture for the yearly Christmas card.
Sound familiar?
Hey, I get it. I’ve been photographing families in and around Rocky Mount, Virginia for years and I know how fast life moves. One day your little ones are climbing up your leg and the next they’re a teacher or a firefighter.
That’s why my sessions aren’t about “perfect poses.” They’re about connection — the giggles, hugs and “remember that time…” moments that make your family, your family. I’ll guide you through everything, keep things easy and probably crack a dad joke or two along the way.
So take a deep breath — this isn’t your typical photo day. We’ll laugh, we’ll roll with the chaos and we’ll capture the kind of images that make you feel something every time you see them.

Let's Talk About It!
Why Rocky Mount Makes the Perfect Backdrop
I have lived in this county for all of my life and I have come to know a lot of the cool places to take family pictures.
Waid Park is the most popular choice because there's something for everyone. It offers nature lovers a great experience because it has wide open fields and forested, well maintained trails and the famous Pigg River flowing right through the middle. If you're not into that there are a couple of playgrounds that can be used as backdrops also.
Downtown Rocky Mount has several unique and old buildings that can be used and there is a beautiful bed and breakfast right in the middle of downtown called The Claiborne House that I have used in the past. It has a lot of outdoor and indoor areas that are perfect for family pictures.
If none of those reach out and grab you there are so many rustic barns and scenic backroads and beautiful sunset spots to take advantage of also.

Why Families Trust Me (Even the Ones Who Hate Photos)
Not everyone wakes up excited about picture day (looking at you, husbands). But here's the thing: I don't expect anyone to act like models. Just show up as you are and I'll take care of the rest.
I’ll guide you through everything — where to stand, what to do with your hands, even how to get those real smiles out of the kids. I’ve been told I’m a kid whisperer when it comes to getting them to take good pictures and I take that as a compliment.
And in the end, you’ll get portraits that don’t just look good — they’ll feel like your family. The kind of photos that stop you mid-stroll and make you grin every time you walk past them on the wall.

What to Expect - A Stress Free Family Photo Experience
I like to keep things simple because life itself is complicated enough and taking pictures shouldn't add to it.
Here’s what to expect:

			Rocky Mount Family Photography FAQs
📌 Where are the best places for family photos in Rocky Mount?
Waid Park is always a winner for outdoor sessions. If you love that small-town feel, Downtown Rocky Mount’s brick and charm make a great backdrop. And for something quieter we can head to nearby Smith Mountain Lake or my home place of Callaway.
📌 Do you travel outside Rocky Mount for sessions?
Absolutely. I often photograph families from Boones Mill, Ferrum, Smith Mountain Lake and even Roanoke. I’m always up for a drive if it means a good story and a fun time!
📌 What’s the best time of year for family photos?
Honestly? Today! Your kids are not going to stop growing so stop waiting until the "perfect" day because in reality that's never going to happen. The pictures are not as much about getting that beautiful backdrop as they are about capturing your family in that moment before they change again.
